2015 Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre Cheque Presentations

Elated Black Dog Riders present Lifeline and Mental Health First Aid with the funds raised from the Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre, ensuring they can continue their vital suicide prevention work across the nation.

Lifeline Australia and Mental Health First Aid Australia (MHFA) were chosen as the beneficiaries of the Red Centre fundraising. Net funds were directed to Lifeline's Online Crisis Support chat service and funding the MHFA Youth Program across Australia. In addition, Black Dog Ride will fund MHFA Training and suicide prevention programs for the Mutitjulu Community in Central Australia.

In the last week, giant cheques have been presented to Lifeline and MHFA by very proud Black Dog Ride representatives in New South Wales and Victoria. It was a long road to the Red Centre for Black Dog Riders, with many months of preparation, awareness and fundraising activities organised before the first wheel turned onto the highway to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention.

Well done to all who participated and all who donated to make this remarkable fundraising effort possible.

Lifeline's online Crisis Support Chat service is a free confidential support service to any one in crisis across the nation, and thanks in part to Black Dog Ride's fundraising, now provides crisis support to over 40,000 people annually.

The MHFA teen program empower Australian youth with the tools to identify a mental health crisis amongst their peers and respond appropriately. This training is a vital pathway to lowering the devestating suicide rate amongst Australian teens. 350,000 Australians are now trained in Mental Health First Aid.

Black Dog Ride's awareness raising builds caring communities which encourage people living with mental illness to reach out for support, and Black Dog Ride's fundraising efforts directly aid both mental health crisis support and suicide prevention. Coupled together, this grassroots suicide prevention charity is having a huge positive impact in the Australian mental health sector. Read the Wrap Up of the Ride to the Red Centre here.
